Acupuncture for Pediatric Care

Acupuncture and herbs can support your child’s mental, emotional, and physical health in a drug-free way. We offer needle-free options as well to support your kiddos with this ancient medicine that is still relevant today.

Growing pains? Acupuncture can help by increasing the body’s natural endorphins. Broken bone? Acupuncture helps to heal tissue and increase blood flow. There are treatments for ADHD, childhood asthma, allergies, sleep problems, colic, colds and flus, immunity support, and much more.

Is Acupuncture Safe for Children?

Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are safe alternatives to many medications and treatments through conventional medicine. Because of their age and size, most children are particularly sensitive to prescription medications. Acupuncture is a great drug-free alternative, is not painful, and doesn’t have the adverse side effects often accompanied by pharmaceuticals.

How Can I Prepare My Child for Their First Acupuncture Treatment?

At Carolina Family Acupuncture, we want you and your child to feel completely comfortable from the moment you walk in the door. We love treating children, but we are aware that needles can be really scary for many children (and many adults, too!).

Here are a few things to know before your child’s first acupuncture treatment:

  1. Relax!
You’re probably more nervous than your child is! You can help your child view the appointment positively by remaining relaxed and positive yourself.
  2. Don’t fear the needles
Acupuncture needles are very small and thin, about a hair’s width. For children, we don’t leave the needles in; we simply tap the acupuncture points. We also offer needle-free treatments.
  3. Wiggle-worms welcome
We do not retain the needles, so your child will not have to hold still for long time periods.
  4. We make treatments fun
We want your child to be relaxed and confident during treatments. Depending on the age of the child, we often play a game, count, or sing while stimulating the acupuncture point.
  5. Short appointments
Treatment time frames for children are shorter than adults’ treatments. Instead of a 25-30 minute treatment, children’s treatments usually last 10-15 minutes.
  6. Quick healing
Kids’ bodies heal faster because they are constantly growing and they don’t have the same chronic issues adults do. This means that kids don’t need to come in at the same frequency or for as long as adults do.
